Short biography
Gillian Anderson is an american actress born in Chicago. She began her acting career in the theater but Gillian Anderson enjoyed public and critical success during the 1990s for her first television role. Her performance over two decades as the rigorous scientist Dana Scully in the television series X-Files and its two companion feature films (The X-Files: The Movie in 1998 and X-Files: Regeneration in 2008) earned her a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Role.
When the first part of X-Files ended in 2002, the actress moved to the United Kingdom and alternated roles in films.
She received three nominations for the Laurence Olivier Awards in the category of best actress. In 2016, she was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the arts.
