Short biography
Maria Halle Berry is born August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is an American actress and model.
She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in the dramatic film « In the Shadow of Hate » (2001). She is the first African-American woman to receive this award.
After starting out in modeling, she played a series of supporting roles in films during the 1990s and 2000s: Boomerang (1992), Ultimate Decision (1996), X-Men (2000), Operation Swordfish (2001).
She reached critical recognition with two projects: first the TV movie Dorothy Dandridge, the fate of a diva (1999), which earned her the Emmy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, then the drama In the Shadow of Hate (2002), for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress.
She was one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood during the 2000’s and took part in the production of many of the films she starred in.
