Maria Yourievna Sharapovia, is a former Russian professional tennis player. She is born April 19, 1987 in Niagan, Siberia,

She is the first Russian to achieve several major achievements on the women’s circuit. She is the first Russian to win Wimbledon in the 2004 edition. On August 22, 2005, she became the 16th player in history and the first Russian to become world No. 1 in the WTA rankings. She became the first player from her country to win the Australian Open in 2008. Finally, she is the 10th player in history (6th in the Open Era) and the first Russian to win all four Grand Slam singles tournaments during her career: Wimbledon 2004, US Open 2006, Australian Open 2008 and French Open 2012 and 2014. The best Russian player in the history of tennis, she also has an Olympic silver medal to her credit, won in London in 2012. She participated in Russia’s victory in the Fed Cup in 2008.
